Article 1: School Based Partnerships: A Problem Solving Strategy. COPS Innovations
This article is about the community oriented police services (COPS) office who funded the school based partnerships grant program. They did this because they wanted schools to address crime and disorder problems in middle schools and high schools. The law enforcement agencies who brought this to the schools had to be trained in problem analysis, problem solving methods, response and assessment to understand the causes of the problems that go on and schools and what to do in case something happens. They have to learn to evaluate there efforts. “Police indicated that certain partnerships were instrumental in developing a better understanding of problems in and around schools.”(eric.ed) Police are there to make sure no one feels threatened and help keep people safe from violence, drugs and crimes. This article also talks about how police help teachers, parents and students feel more safe in schools. I believe this article gave me a better understanding because it taught me about how some schools had different organizations, trained organizations to help with violence and crimes in the schools.

Article 2: Student Discipline Strategies: School System and Police Response to High Risk and Disruptive Youth
This article is speaking about how police agencies and school systems are working together to aim at preventing, reducing and controlling student misbehavior and crime. Many of the schools had disciplinary violations and crimes. Disciplinary violations deal with school rules and crimes represent violations of federal, state, and local laws which can also involve school systems officials as well as law enforcement agencies. Police are utilized in the schools to respond to such crisis’s, such as fights, vandalism, or even burglary. School and police relationships grew closer and closer as years went on and police were handling more serious violations. They were dealing with riots and major students interactions. The school districts make sure to have a very close working relationship with their security offices. This article speaks about the difference between school officials and the police and how each will no about a crime or something violent going on in the schools. It is said that “ school personnel will know the particulars of the problems, of course, but unless they have a special training they are not likely to even realize that the incident is even potentially criminal. This article is stressing that school officials sometimes do not understand the difference between fighting, and criminal cases which is why police are needed because they have a better understanding and clearer training for what is going on. They have better situations when dealing with student crimes or violent errors in the schools. Between the police agencies and the school systems they have three strategies prevention, response and control. This article was by far the best article I looked at because it helped me understand the difference between the two roles of police in schools and school officials.

Article 3: School Crime Patterns
This article is talking about a national profile of U.S public high school using rates of crime and reporting them to the police. High schools, all different high schools have different crime rates because the student population are grouped by characteristics, community characteristics, and school violence prevention efforts. The three specific question this article focuses on is 1. What proportion of high schools have high rates of violence? 2. What are the characteristics of high schools with high rates of violent crime? 3. Are the methods to control disorder related to the level of violence? These three question are being asked because many school officials believe that not many high school crimes go on. They think that more would go on if the student was away from school because the school is a safe place for the students to be. Principals were asked to report there violent crimes to the police. Some crimes such as murder, assault, burglary, robbery, rape and suicide were reported and also fighting with out weapons and vandalism were also reported. “ One in five high school reported any serious violent crime.” By reading this article I believe that this is why we should have police in the school whether it is one officer or more then one. It is always good to have that support in the schools because you never know what can happen.
